Two Dry Eye Products You Must Retail

The last post I discussed the advantages of starting a retail center for your dry eye practice. The advantages of doing so are numerous and include:

  • Decreased patient confusion when trying to find these products at the pharmacy or grocery store
  • Ease of purchase since you can offer premium products that are not found on the internet or at a retail store
  • The convenience factor since you can offer the same price or at times even better than what the item is valued for on the internet

I want to now share clinical insight on what two specific retail products have done the best as far as improving clinical outcomes in treating a multifactorial disease such as dry eye. It's no surprise, these two products also have the highest conversion rates for purchase at checkout in our practice.

The two most important retail products you should carry in your office are:

  1. Hypochlorous acid products for eyelid and eyelash hygiene. I have been using these products for several years now and these are the first products sold in office that I have seen patients regularly return asking to buy more and actively requesting numerous refills after a doctor recommendation. The efficacy of the active ingredient hypochlorous acid is much more efficacious than baby shampoo and other older products we all have recommended in the past.
  2. Moist heat eye compress- I prefer and use Bruder. Patients find lasting relief using this product. Microwaved for about 20 seconds, the mask provides warm moist heat for ten minutes offering better therapeutic relief when compared to other masks and home remedies. They are durable, last a long time and patients love using them to help aid in the treatment of dry eye and meibomian gland disease.

**Dr. Johnston has no consulting, financial relationship, or relative disclosures related to the companies that make these two products.
